A decent education is an important investment in terms of development and reducing poverty. As well as being a basic right, education is important for the equal opportunities of girls and women, for economic growth, and for peace and democratic development. As an example, one year’s education can increase a person’s income by ten per cent.
In addition, education is an important tool in fighting infant mortality and improving the health of mothers. Learning and knowledge can play a crucial role in protecting the environment and adapting to climate change.

Education is key to the fair distribution of wealth and meeting basic human rights. Not least, education is vital in conflict stricken and vulnerable countries, as well as during humanitarian disasters. It can help normalise and secure day-to-day life in a crisis situation, and give hope and opportunities for a better future.
